There is no right or wrong yarn, however, Carol has favorite yarns for different techniques and for different projects. Here is a list of some of them.

Frames

Most forms of sprang require a frame. A variety of shapes and sizes of frames can work for sprang. It is very possible to make your own frame, a few ideas are listed here. If building a frame isn't your style, then there are a few vendors who carry Spring frames.
