The SprangLady Subscription offers a year's worth of sprang structures for the price of $120 CAD.
This year (2022) we explore a variety of lace patterns. The 2021 subscription ... still available ... explores a variety of structures from interlinking to interlacing to intertwining. With the SprangLady Subscription you will receive guidance to make a sample of the structure-of-the-month. Based on measurements of that sample, you will be guided through the steps to calculate setup information for a Mobius neckscarf (or hat or mittens ... or all 3). Each month a different structure, explained with a PDF instruction sheet and short video. Over the year we will explore 12. In addition, you will have other information, such as tips to "shrink down" that initial row of extra twists, instruction sheets on false-circular warp, and more. Included in the price is access to a monthly Zoom session with Carol. Focused study - sprang summer classes online!
Many of Carol's students have requested in-depth study sessions on particular topics. We are pleased to announce that this spring we will present a series of focused classes. Thursday Feb 10 and : we will begin a two-part series on twining on a background of interlinking. This technique opens up a variety of brightly colored surface-design motifs. Thursday, March 24: False Circular Warp. This technique allows you to work on threads that are twice the length of your frame. Thursday April 21: explore the use of S and Z stitches within the same row to make lovely diamond patterns. Register now to save your spot! If you have any question or concerns please contact Claire (my daughter, who is taking over class registration duties) Introduction to sprang class

The SprangLady Subscription-2021- Exploring structures
CA$120.00
Welcome to the SprangLady Subscribers Information Site. I look forward to sharing information with you, and accompanying you in your explorations of sprang. I will be available for a monthy sprang chat via Zoom, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There you can ask me questions, and receive on-line support. You will also be able to meet others interested in sprang. You will find a number of documents here. I consider these the foundational instruction sheets that follow after you've mastered the basic interlinking stitch. The exploration for the year 2021 was "advanced sampling". The idea was to take you through the exercise of making samples. You are then invited to use those samples to calculate number of stitches and length of warp required for a neckscarf. If a neckscarf isnot your thing, then you could use these samples to make a hat or pair of fingerless mittens .... sprang has lots of options. For 2021, each month we offered a different sprang stitch, and invite you to evaluate it in order to make a neckscarf (or hat or pair of fingerless mittens). The list of stitches reads as follows: January: interlacing, over one, under one February: interlacing, over two, under two, horizontal ribs March: basic interlinking April: Over 3 interlinking May: Ropes aka Full Twists June: Transpositions - Twists July: Doubles Grid August: 2-2 Interlacing, Vertical ribs September: Interrupted Twill October: Patterns in S&Z November: Twining December: Intertwining For those of you who missed signing up in 2021, this is not a problem. You will receive all 12 months' worth of patterns all at once, and will be added to the list of people invited to the monthly Zoom chat. The monthly Zoom chat, is arranged at different times of the day on a rotating cycle, to accommodate members in diverse time zones. Once subscribed to a SprangLady subscription, you will continue to be invited to the monthly Zoom chat until such a time as you request to be removed from the list. Welcome to the SprangLady Subscribers Information Site. I look forward to sharing information with you, and accompanying you in your explorations of sprang. While the 2021 subscription offered a peek into the variety of structures possible with sprang, the 2022 subscription focuses exclusively on lace patterns. Each month will introduce a new pattern for you to practice and play with. For a preview of the content visit: https://www.spranglady.com/2022-preview.html The 2022 subscription will include the same patterns options for a neckscarf, a pair of fingerless mittens or sprang hat. After making a sample of the sprang-lace-pattern-of-the month, you are welcome to make yourself a set of twelve scarves, or mittens, or hats, each in a different lace pattern. During testing of instructions for one of my sprang lace books, one tester produced several squares that she put in her windows. I am offering that as an option as well. The 2022 subscription page will include instructions on making the window squares. I will be available for a monthly sprang chat via Zoom, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There you can ask me questions, and receive on-line support. You will also be able to meet others interested in sprang. The monthly Zoom chat will be arranged at different times of the day on a rotating cycle, to accommodate members in diverse time zones. For those of you who missed signing up in 2021, this is not a problem. You will receive all 12 months' worth of patterns all at once, and will be added to the list of people invited to the monthly Zoom chat. You will continue to be invited to the monthly Zoom chat until such a time as you request to be removed from the list. The SprangLady website offers some basic information and instructions for decoding Carol's pattern writing method, as well as a short review on making holes. These are the building blocks upon which this subscription is built. If you are comfortable with the basics of sprang, how to set up, how to work the basic stitches, how to read Carol's charts, and a finishing technique or two, then this subscription is for you. The subscription is NOT a class. It has been designed for people who already have a firm basic understanding. It is intended for intermediate Sprangers, who want to explore farther, that is, you are able to independently set up your work and are comfortable with the basic stitch, and can read Carol's sprang lace charts. You can learn all this in the introductory class. Sign up to my website in order to get emails informing you of when the next class will occur. If you would like to learn more about different spring stitches I recommend you check out the the SprangLady subscription – 2021 – exploring structures Sprang Lace on-line (3 part) Nov-Dec 2023

CA$120.00
Welcome to the SprangLady Subscribers Information Site. I look forward to sharing information with you, and accompanying you in your explorations of sprang. The 2023 subscription will focus on surface design variations using the S-lean and the Z-lean of the interlinking stitch (S&Z patterns). S&Z patterns can create surprising texture in the cloth, including the appearance of a basket weave (July’s theme). By reversing the twists in the yarn, S&Z patterns can also create flatter fabric than simple interlinking. Each month will introduce a new pattern or three (a total of 24 patterns) for you to practice and play with. We start with an introduction to S&Z, move from simple to more complex patterns found in sprang bonnets from 4th - 8th century Egypt, and then into some more recent patterns suggested by Peter Collingwood in The Techniques of Sprang (1974). The patterns in this year's subscription were created by Sharon Wichman. Read about her passion for S & Z textures. Thank you so much for your hard work on this Sharon! Here is a preview of the year's subscription. The 2023 subscription will include the same pattern options for a neckscarf, a pair of fingerless mittens or sprang hat. After making a sample of the sprang-S&Z-pattern-of-the month, you are welcome to make yourself a set of twelve scarves, or mittens, or hats, each in a different S&Z pattern. We will be available for a monthly sprang chat via Zoom, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There you can ask questions, and receive on-line support. You will also be able to meet others interested in sprang. The monthly Zoom chat will be arranged at different times of the day on a rotating cycle, to accommodate members in diverse time zones. For those of you who missed signing up in January ... this is not a problem. Even if you sign up, in, say, June, you will begin with access to all the previous information, January through June's structures ... but you will have missed out on 5 months of Zoom meetings. If you are comfortable with the basics of sprang, how to set up, how to work the basic stitches, how to read Carol's charts, and a finishing technique or two, then this subscription is for you. The first few months of the subscription will include written instructions on S&Z as well as a few how-to videos ... for those familiar with Carol's charts. For those wanting more personalised help, we will be offering a class on S&Z in January 2023. The subscription is NOT a class. It has been designed for people who already have a firm basic understanding. It is intended for intermediate Sprangers, who want to explore farther, that is, you are able to independently set up your work, are comfortable with the basic stitch, and can read Carol's charts. You can learn all this in the introductory class. Sign up to my website in order to get emails informing you of when the next class will occur. If you would like to learn more about different sprang stitches I recommend you check out the 2021 subscription which offered a peek into the variety of structures possible with sprang. The 2022 subscription focused exclusively on lace patterns. These subscriptions are available to you, the entire year in one click. S&Z, Oct 23 and 30, 2023

Class meets Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM Central Time in North American for six consecutive Wednesdays starting February 7th, 2023. What's sprang? How does it work? Start at the beginning ... with a frame already set up. This class guides you in an exploration of the basics of sprang. We focus on the interlinking stitch which results in very stretchy cloth. The step-by-step approach makes it easy. Learn to set up your frame, flat warp and circular warp, a number of surface design possibilities, and a variety of finishing techniques. Make bags, hats, mittens and more. Pilot tests of this class have received rave reviews. Individuals who have participated in previous 3-day intensive sprang workshops say they gained so much more from this on-line class which spread out the same information (and lots more) over six weeks. The time in-between allowed for reflection, absorption, and mastery of the material. Included in the price is an already warped sprang frame, a copy of Sprang Unsprung, a copy of the DVD Introduction to Sprang, assorted other bits, access to a class web page, as well as six weekly Zoom sessions of 2 hours each. Instruction will be available by Zoom, and each class will be recorded so you can watch over and over. If you have any question or concerns please contact me Charting S&Z patterns, Class- Nov 8 2023
CA$20.00
This class will take place on Zoom Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 2-4pm central time in North America. How do Carol's charts apply to patterns in S&Z? How might a person predict the movement of colored threads across an interlaced structure? How does one decide on the location of the transition stitches, and which ones will be worked on front threads, which stitches to be worked on back threads? The goal of this class is to reveal the rules and demystify the process. When Carol teaches classes in sprang lace, she helps participants to write out lace patterns for themselves. This pattern-writing exercise has been credited with deepening the participants' understanding of the lace structures. The intent of this class is to help participants to better understand the charts for S & Z structures explored in the 2023 Sprang along. The class will give students the information necessary to chart their own patterns, further exploring S & Z structures. False circular warp, setup and working-Nov 20 2023 -

Workshops
Carol can be enticed to come and teach in your town. She asks you to fund her travel, and find her overnight accommodation, as well as an honorarium for the instruction. Contact me for further details.
Us the Carol tracker to see were she will be next! Carol has been giving on-line multi-media presentations, talking about sprang. Reviews are quite positive, such as this review from MC, concerning the recording of one such presentation:
I FINALLY made time to watch this video today. Wow! I would have told you that I have absolutely no interest in sprang, but that was fascinating! I still have no desire to weave it, but the history and utility astounded me. And Carol is certainly EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the topic. |

A one-day workshop (roughly 6 hours) introduces you to the basic stitch. Carol provides materials all set up and ready to go. We focus on the basic stitch, how to do it, how to check to see that it is correct, how to identify 'irregularities', and some finishing techniques. You then have time to set up a second project from scratch, and follow through, exploring 'irregularities'.
|
A 2-day workshop includes everything from the full-day workshop, with more time to work on your technique. We will explore pattern writing and pattern reading. You will also have time to explore some surface designs.
People who have booked Carol for 3-day workshops say that the 3rd day is when it all 'clicks' in the head. It sometimes takes 3 days to begin to master the technique. On the 3rd day Carol will help you design and set up a project to your liking.
