The 3rd class took place on February 21.
we began with the finishing technique called "chain across" We then looked at ways to add coloured threads to your warp, and a way to play with the color. Extra information included COTET, a way to shrink the loops at the top of the cloth, and also Peter Collingwood's suggestion for working the last few inches at the centre. |

Finishing Technique: Chain Across
The optional finishing technique this week is a very traditional one, called "chain across".

Last week we tied knots between the different colors of yarns. If the color zones are narrow, then there is another way to add colored threads, minimizing the number of knots.
Now that you know how to add color to your warp, here is information that will help you create designs with contrasting colored threads.

We will go through the instructions to set up this 2-colored warp, minimizing the number of knots to be tied.
We will then work through the instructions to shift between a variety of colored patterns. |

Extra Credit Candy-Stripe Hat
Here are the instructions for a candy-stripe hat. I wrote the pattern several years ago, featuring Red Heart acrylic yarn (left-over stash from teaching grade school students).

COTIR
This is a video that shows you how to get rid of those extra long loops at the top of your cloth. The technique is called "cancel out the initial row" or "cancel out the extra twists" (I have trouble remembering the exact wording). |
