Student comments
Carol has been teaching sprang for over a decade now and she has been successfully teaching zoom classes since 2020. But you don't have to take our word for it. Here are some comments from students who have taken her classes:
Into to sprang class
Bardara Schutzgruber made a lovely blog post about her experience with Carol at her intro to spring class at convergence 2024. To read her class review you can visit her blog on the link below.
I LOVED the 6 week intro class. I loved having the lessons spaced out so I could get used to the movements and gain muscle memory. I loved the Zoom format because everyone had a Birds Eye view of Carol's hands. I love the Zoom multi week format for weaving workshops, too, and I hope more teachers do it. I loved having people from all over the world in the class. That was cool.
I signed up for 6 more classes. I had no idea there were so many different techniques to Sprang. Love it. Thank you! Berna Lowenstein A class full of tipps and tricks - all the little things that are written nowhere but make so much sense (oh - some are written in Carol‘s book though).
Carol did a great job accomodating the total novices as well as some more experienced sprangers - she kept us all busy and interested. I simply loved the classes. Thank you so much. Sprang offers so many possibilities ❤️. Denise Graf I’ve taken dozens of Zoom classes both in a professional capacity and as a weaver and fiber artist Carol uses this format as well as anyone. She has cameras set up so you can actually see her demonstrating better than you can in a live class. And there is no one who knows more about Sprang than Carol. She has a moderator in the class so questions are answered and the class keeps moving. If you have any interest in this class take it!!! It’s fabulous!!!

Vielen Dank!
Kirsten Adelsberger Carol James does an excellent job of explaining the technique of sprang. The course is complemented by clear pdf documents and video tutorials.
There is time and opportunity to ask questions and get help with problems. The course material sent in advance is very well selected and makes it very easy to start. Cornelia Müller I greatly enjoyed the content, the emphasis on learning the basics and the variety of little projects. I also found the introduction to reading and making patterns extremely helpful in training my mind and eyes to grasp the structure.
Amanda Isaac What a great craft and class! Carol was a good teacher. She was incredibly patient as she explained new techniques again and again for some of us slow-pokes. I appreciated the book, handouts and videos. All those different sources of information helped me get through homework exercises. I am so glad that I took the class.

Finger weaving class
I had previously purchased Carol's book and had done some basic weaving, but was stumped on the more complicated patterns. The class really helped me figure things out. I didn't attend the classes live, and was a bit frustrated not to- but there was one attendee that took up a lot of time and I'm glad I could just skip those parts- I would have been frustrated by this live. Weekdays are hard for working parents, and maybe 2 weeks in between classes might have given me more chance to make progress, but that is me personally. I was surprised that the instructor wasn't Carol, but Claire was an excellent teacher- calm and patient and helpful. I think some more details on the set up would be helpful- I see Carol tying things off on a loop, but I can't really understand how she is doing this and having tension in the work. Will there be an intermediate workshop online? I feel like there are more tips and tricks to learn when it comes to a big sash! I also really want to figure out the tree from Carol's Quetico sash- amazing! Thank you so much- the progression of the basics, to patterns, to complex patterns has given me the confidence to keep at this! The simple and straightforward approach has allowed me to be successful and each step, without frustration. You've clearly developed an excellent teaching process. Goal is a Metis sash for my husband and then each of my daughters!
