sprang Lace class 1
The first class was held on May 16. We explored the use of the edge stitches to create holes. We also worked to create charts using graph paper.

Here is a video, showing you how to set up the warp for class. Use 2 colors of yarn, A and B, and set on a warp of 20 loops:
4A, 4B, 4A, 4B, 4A I used Berroco Pima 100, set on a 24 inch long frame, and that was just enough for the motifs ... see the photo at the top of the PDF instruction sheet below SprangLaceTutorial.Part1. |

We will go through the steps to make these holes, working the stitches together. We will also discuss Carol's notation method for the stitches.
To better understand the notation method, Carol will offer an exercise that requires graph paper and colored pencils. You might want to download the graph paper PDF at the right and find some colored pencils. Carol will use a black lead pencil, and two other pencils, one blue and one green. Many people report that actually writing out the chart themselves goes a long way to understanding the way it works. |

We worked through an exercise to write a chart yourself.
At the right you will find the slides from that PowerPoint presentation |
