This structure combines interlinking and interlacing. It has a fair amount of sideways stretch, but avoids the vertical lines you would ordinarily get with an un-interrupted interlinking stitch. I first became aware of this stitch when someone showed me the image of a Ukranian sash, and felt compelled to try to work out a way to get the same design. Working two rows of interlinking, and then a row of 2-2 interlacing is the key. Every six rows, the threads return to their original position.
