A wide variety of stitches are possible with sprang. Some of them show up early in student work. We are trying for the structure at the left, but sometimes other structures appear ....
The desired structure looks like chain-link fence.

If you work subsequent follow-up (overplait) rows, then you get long holes and ropes.

If you work subsequent braiding (plait) rows, then you get a more dense structure called "under 3 interlinking"
