1st Class
The first class took place on Saturday, January 25, 2025

We worked on the basic stitch
initial row
braiding row (plait row)
follow-up row (overplait row)

Homework for the week is to work on this warp.
When you get to the middle, take it apart and do it again.

For next week's class, you will want to be near the middle, with an inch or two between the two sides, where it gets to be too tight to work.

This is a note-sheet that I prepared for classes I've taught in person. I don't expect it to make sense ahead of class, but hope it will be helpful information after the first class.

These are instructions I prepared for the frame you will be receiving by mail. It is the "owner's manual"  to be included with each sprang frame shipped by the frame-makers. Again, I do not expect it to make sense before class, but hope it will be useful after we talk about warping.

The sprang frame may have been rattled around a bit in the mail. You might want to check the cross on the frame before class, Saturday, Jan 25. The video at the left guides you through the process.
Here is a sample cheat card that many students find helpful

Carol acknowledges that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. Carol also acknowledges that sprang is part of many  indigenous traditions  and found in various forms all over the world. Let us re-discover this technique together.
