New Life for Old Sprang Patterns

This is the first book of sprang lace patterns published by Herborg Wahl in 1999.

Herborg and her son Terje have given me permission to make these available to you.

Herborg writes in her native Norwegian, giving a brief history of sprang, and some of it's uses throughout history. She then gives a detailed plan for her sprang frame, as well as a detailed description of the technique.

The second half of the book is given to charts for a wide variety of sprang lace patterns. She uses the charting method described by Peter Collingwood, a method that works well with the type of lace she records: left-edge stitch, right-edge stitch, and double stitch motifs.

Carol acknowledges that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. Carol also acknowledges that sprang is part of many  indigenous traditions  and found in various forms all over the world. Let us re-discover this technique together.
