In this document, Carol describes her process exploring diverse approaches to recreate head coverings found in artwork from the 1500s using the sprang technique. Carol shares the schematics of approaches to sprang bonnets, as identified in historic sprang bonnets, starting in the Bronze Age. She identifies strategies that could be used to re-create bonnets that closely resemble bonnets depicted in artwork from the 1500s. Apparently these bonnets were worn by wealthy men and soldiers, wealthy women and housewives.

Instructions in this document assume an understanding of the basics of sprang, and a familiarity with Carol's notation method.

Carol acknowledges that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. Carol also acknowledges that sprang is part of many  indigenous traditions  and found in various forms all over the world. Let us re-discover this technique together.
