The Art and History Museum holds a collection of sprang lace, mostly made in the late 1700s to early 1800s by the grandmother of a certain Mme. Lemye. In addition to these pieces there is a long strip of lace, bearing a later collection number D.03977, and featuring a sampling of the diverse stitches that were used by Mme. Lemye.

This volume contains instructions and charts for each of the motifs on sampler D.03977. For three of the motifs we offer two versions: a simplified version and a more complicated version which gave us results more closely resembling the original. This book is recommended for anyone wanting to work through an authentic selection of sprang lace stitches.

Taprootvideo an instructor's cooperative, will soon offers this volume as a physical book or as a down-load-able PDF. www.taprootvideo.com

Carol acknowledges that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. Carol also acknowledges that sprang is part of many  indigenous traditions  and found in various forms all over the world. Let us re-discover this technique together.
