So, what happens in the middle?-May 2022
Thursday, May 19th. (2h focused study class) at 7PM in Winnipeg.
The question the students ask quite often is : what happens in the middle? Well there are several different ways to finish off a piece of sprang. In this class we will delve into various finishing techniques as well as some techniques that you can do at the very beginning of your work to prepare for the finishing process.
You might want to prepare a warp or two or three, and have then ready to try these finishing techniques. You might set up a couple of pieces. If you have only one sprang frame ... no problem. Set up and work a couple of narrow pieces (20 to 30 threads, 10 to 15 loops), one after another, to a place where you are ready to work the finishing technique ... and then slide each off the frame, and start another one. I will show you how to easily set the piece back onto the frame.
If you want to try the "cut apart" technique, then have a narrow warp (20 to 30 threads, 10 to 15 loops) worked to a point that the two sides are 6-8 inches apart.
You might want to have another piece ready to explore ways to squeeze in the last few rows ... I will show you a couple of ways to do that.
We will look at several ways to stabilize the work at the center.
We will also look at ways to deal with loose loops along the starting edges.
