week 6

We talked about the bulls eye ... turning the pattern around at the centre of a long sash.
You are all invited to participate in the weekly Zoom meeting of the Winnipeg Fingerweaving Support Group.

Here is a photo of that piece, after a few more rows of the arrowhead motif. The in-fill pie-shaped pieces smooth out, and the transition from up-pointing arrow to down-pointing arrow is complete. The piece will lie flat.
So what's next? Putting all these different structures together produces a huge variety of patterns and structures. So many other variations to think of, size of thread, length of warp, size of finished piece, colour sequences as well as structures and patterns.

Now that you are familiar with many of these elements, we would like to invite you to continue playing with this truly remarkable textile technique. The best way to get proficient is to practice. Some people find it is easier to practice in a social environment. For this reason we have created a "finger weaving support group".

You're welcome to join the Facebook group to find out about virtual group. We hope you will want to join us "in person" someday at this virtual Zoom meet up. It's good to have an excuse to work on your project at least once a week (during the meet-up) and also to see the progress of other finger weaving artisans.

Carol acknowledges that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. Carol also acknowledges that sprang is part of many  indigenous traditions  and found in various forms all over the world. Let us re-discover this technique together.
